David Simonson is joint founder of Merlin. He has specialised in corporate and financial communications consultancy internationally for over 20 years, and has extensive expertise in Mergers, Acquisitions, Initial Public Offerings and special situations.
A graduate of the University of Durham and a Master of Science of the University of London, he commenced his career in Media Planning and Strategy for leading ad agency Boase Massimi Pollitt, before moving into PR with Lombard Communications in 1986.
He has worked with leading international consultancies including Valin Pollen and Gavin Anderson & Co, advising clients including Abbey National, Carlton Television, Chrysalis, LWT, Richemont, Robert Fleming, Pacific Dunlop, Manweb and SEEBOARD. He advised on the UK electricity privatisation programme with the latter, and was involved in the contentious coal privatisation programme advising RJB Mining in the early 1990's. In the Aerospace market, he has been a strategic adviser to Airbus for 10 years.
He is primarily responsible for strategic consulting in the Industrial, Transport, Defence and Mining sectors, advising clients including EADS, Mittal Steel, SR Technics and Peter Hambro Mining. He recently advised internationally on the $21 billion merger of LNM Group and Ispat International to create the new global No.1 steel corporation, Mittal Steel.
